District Governor -Elect: Abe Feder

abe_feder_250_339_90Born in Brooklyn New York in 1947 I spent my first 9 years in the “Big Apple”. In 1957 my family moved from New York to the “Grand Canyon” state due to my fathers chronic arthritis from wounds received during WWII. To say that the family underwent culture shock would be an understatement.

The school years went well-finding that I was not really the “Jock Type” I seemed to spend my hours in the pursuit of other activities. I became involved in the science club, became a ham radio operator, raised tropical fish and seemed to be pretty well adjusted until I reached my senior year of high school. I took an auto shop class and found what was to become a burning passion –the need for speed. From that point I was either in a car or under it.

College was a turning point in my life-it was there in my sophomore year that I met Barbara Marie Treusdell who a short time later became my wife. I managed to get out of college after marrying with a degree in electrical engineering-which I have never used. Since entering the work world I have sold insurance for The Travelers, been a banker going from a management trainee, to branch manager, to being a Vice President running the credit card department. For the last 35 years Barb and I have owned and operated our own business-Framin’ Works where we offer custom framing, art and art restoration services. And during this time went on to get a M.B.A.

Barb and I have been married for 44 years, have 2 children-a son Aaron and a daughter Lisa, and I am happy to say 7 grandchildren and live in Mesa Az.

To say that Rotary has made an impact on my life is an understatement. My wife Barb is a PDG. I joined Rotary in 2002, was a charter member of a club, creator and chairman of a fundraising event-Trains, Plans, Automobiles and Up on Two Wheels for 3 years, chairman of a fundraising auction for 2 years, past president of Ahwatukee Foothills Rotary Club and have served in almost all club board positions. I am a member of the Tempe South Rotary Club, I have been an AG, RLI facilitor, as well as for Visions and I have been asked to be District Trainer for 2010-2011. I am a Paul Harris Fellow, member of the White Hat Society, Bequest Society Member and a Major Donor.
