District Governor Elect Alan Havir

Alan is the owner of Capital Life Planning, a financial services firm founded in 1994. He got his BA from ASU in Theatre and Fine Arts, and his Masters in Communications from Loyola Marymount University.

Alan enjoys playing music (and being a disk jockey!), cycling, skiing, gourmet cooking, and writing.

PERSONAL

President of Capital Life Planning, LLC, Alan is an independent investment advisor and
financial planner with an emphasis in cash flow management and retirement income
security.

Alan is married to Sandy Abalos, CPA (Rotary E-Club of the Southwest) who has three daughters; Stefanie, Jennifer and Makenzie. Alan has two daughters: Natane (Rotary E-Club of the Southwest, and Rotary Youth Exchange 2007-08 to Charleroi, Belgium) and Aiyana member of A.S.U. Rotaract (Rotary Youth Exchange to Vienna, Austria 2009-10).

Alan was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1948 moving to Phoenix in 1959. Since the age of 13 has performed as a professional musician and entertainer in top night clubs in Phoenix, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Today Alan performs special events with a variety of musicians like the Arizona Rotary Blues Band and performs as a Master of Ceremonies and Disc Jockey at weddings, parties and corporate events.

ROTARY

Member of the Rotary Club of Paradise Valley and past member of the Rotary Club of Pinnacle Peak, president in 2006-07.

Zone 26 Executive Board of Directors for “The Ethics Leadership Enterprise”.

District New Generations Chair focused on “the future of Rotary through youth development”. Alan inaugurated a comprehensive approach to youth programs beginning with Interact and created a Youth District Council to promote and develop the experience of youth leadership that perpetuates club continuity and growth.

VOLUNTEER

Alan has been an active member of Upward Foundation Board since 2002 and board president from 2007 to 2010. Upward is a school for medically fragile children “dedicated to improving the lives of children with severe disabilities and other special needs”, serving the community for over 50 years.

California Special Olympics, Alan created and built the cycling program from 1990 to 1994. As the Sports Director for bicycle racing he operated the largest group of volunteers and obtained major corporate sponsors, changing the way the California Special Olympics produced their venues and raised in kind donations to support them.

At Luke Air Force Base, Alan worked with Brigadier General Howard “Howie” Chandler in 1997 to1999 and established a community awareness program known as the “Honorary Squadron Commander” with top business leaders in the greater Phoenix area to prevent a base closure and encroachment.

Alan received his B.A. in Theatre Arts from Arizona State University and his M.A. from Loyola Marymount film school in Communications and Screenwriting in Los Angeles. His screenplay was a runner up in the 1983 Samuel Arkoff awards by the L.A. Times Critics.

Hobbies include: Bicycling certified coach, gourmet cooking and skiing.
