May is here, flowers are blooming, and we’re all young at heart.  Apropos, as this month in our Rotary International world is Youth Service month.  Youth Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as InteractRotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Rotary Youth Exchange, and Rotaract.  D5510 just wrapped up another wildly-successful RYLA in Heber a few weeks ago.  PDG Sherry Mischel, John Wintersteen, Larry Horton and their hard-working team did a fantastic job in planning and executing a four-day event in which 85 high schoolers were helped to transform into tomorrow’s leaders.

Plan to host a HOSPITALITY SUITE at our upcoming D5510 Conference of Clubs, the evening of Friday, June 23rd!
This is the ultimate Rotary fellowship/friendship opportunity!  Clubs take responsibility for hosting a room, usually including decorations, costumes, music, food, and drinks, based on a theme.  These Hospitality Suites are located near each other so that conference attendees stroll around amongst them.  What a FANTASTIC way to connect with old friends and make new ones!
Sticking to our conference theme of time (“Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present, & Launching the Future”), the theme for the Hospitality Suites is: ‘Your Favorite Era’, e.g., Civil War, Victorian, Old West, Gangsters, Roaring ‘20s, Swinging '40s, ‘50s Rock-and-Roll, Motown, Groovy Times, Disco, Yuppies, Grunge, etc. – or make up your own.

Keep in mind that the hotel rooms can also serve as lodging for up to four attendees, as a way of trimming costs.  And feel free to partner with other clubs to host a suite.  Please contact Conference Chair Kara Schroeder to make arrangements at karalyn61@yahoo.com or (928) 600-9574.
If you have not yet done so, please register for the conference – at Little America Hotel in Flagstaff, June 23-24 -- at http://rotary5510.org/Stories/district-conference-2017.

The Rotary Club of Scottsdale North on February 25th performed a major yard clean up and exterior painting of a home in Desert Hills, AZ.  We cleaned up the yard, painted an outside wall to the home and installed a new US Flag for the owner.  We received the person’s name from the Caring Corp in Carefree.  There were 15 Rotarians from our club and four students working on the project.  Here are some photos from the project.
On April 4, The Rotary Club of Scottsdale, along with Paradise Valley Rotary Club, selected the 4 winners and 1 alternate to receive scholarships and trips to a Youth Salute Leadership Town Meeting on Tomorrow Conference held on October 21-24, 2017 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Youth Salute is a recognition program for high school juniors who are leadership achievers. The program is designed to applaud young people who are good citizens, have at least a B grade point average, and have been elected to leadership positions by their peers, in their schools and or community organizations.
In May or June of every year the annual meeting of Rotarians occurs in a major city somewhere in the world.  This year, I hope you’ll join us June 10th-14th for some genuine Southern hospitality in Atlanta, Georgia.  RI Pres. and First Lady John & Judy Germ will be there along with 40,000 of your Rotary friends, some who you already know and others you have yet to meet.
Does your club manage members and officer updates online? Did your district buy a club management system for the clubs in your district, such as DACdb, but your club uses a different vendor, like ClubRunner?
Brilliant sunshine and perfect temperatures on Sunday, March 26th greeted one-hundred seventy golfers gathered at Oakwood Country Club to participate in the Sun Lakes Rotary Charity Golf Tournament. Just before tee time, a helicopter hovered over the practice tee where a green had been constructed. Then, 1,500 marked golf balls fell out of the sky, destined for the green below. A few of them made it into the cup. And from this clutter of balls, six winners emerged: Roy Moser - 1st Place; Don Robins - 2nd Place; Allan Grady - 2nd Place; Landon Osborn - 3rd Place; Bill Schink - 3rd Place; Ross Dupuis - 3rd Place.
